Read time: Under 2 minutes
I want to gift you an experience of love. I want to take away the overwhelm and give you a simple and sensual way to start healing from stress and learning to love yourself.
Use this upcoming time of year as a time to practice self love. I don’t mean buy into the commercialized holiday that advertisers and stores call Valentine’s Day. I mean show up for yourself. Treat yourself like a goddess by taking care of all your needs (healthy food, water, joy, movement, sleep, connection, purpose).
Rituals are essential to establishing connection with yourself, our planet and beyond. They are an intimate way to drop into the present moment (which happens to be the one area we all fall short in).
There are endless ways to perform these, but I wanted to share one of my favorite self love rituals. Trust me…you will feel incredible!
Soulful Shower/Bath Ritual –
Whether you prefer baths or showers, this ritual will work with either.
What you’ll need:
- A few small candles
- Your favorite essential oil or two
- lavender for de-stressing and relaxing
- lemon, orange and ylang ylang for vibrancy, energy and joy.
- rose for love and compassion
- patchouli for sensuality
- A wash cloth
- A small piece of paper or sticky note and pen.
- A clean body oil or lotion (one not full of harmful chemicals)
1. In your bathroom, light the candles in a safe place close to your shower. Grab your essential oil and a wash cloth and prepare yourself for a luxurious treat. Turn the lights off and use the candle light for this soulful shower.
2. Before entering the shower or bath, write a mantra on the piece of paper. A few examples are “I am bountiful, I am blissful, I am beautiful”, “I choose joy today”, “I am sacred, I am beautiful”, “I choose to love myself today”. Or create your own. Set the paper in a safe place.
3. As you enter the shower say your mantra out loud several times.
4. Wet your washcloth and drop 5 drops of essential oils on it. Taking deep breaths through your nose, slowly wash your body with the cloth and give gratitude for every body part you go over. For example: I am thankful for my feet, for allowing me to walk. I am thankful for my arms for allowing me to hug, write, drive, etc. …continue on until you have given gratitude to every part of your amazing body.
5. Add another drop of essential oil on the cloth and cover your face. Take a few deep breaths through the nose and feel your body relaxing.
6. Take as long as you’d like in the shower/bath. As you towel off, show the same gratitude as you did before by giving thanks for each body part you dry off. Go slowly and be fully present to how your body feels.
7. Rub the body oil or lotion on your body as you repeat your mantra out loud. As the lotion is being rubbed into your body, send yourself as much love as you can.
8. Take several deep breaths and pause for a moment in the candlelight. Smile at yourself before opening the door. Put the sticky note on a mirror or fold it and place in your pocket for the day to remind yourself to repeat your mantra.
Try to do this soulful shower ritual at least once a week. You can experiment using different essential oils for different results. If you are having difficulty sleeping, use lavender and perform this shower ritual right before bed. If you are in need of more energy and joy, try this in the morning.
However you choose to do it, do it from a place of self love. You will be amazed at how transformative this ritual can be!
Give this to your Inner Goddess. You Deserve it!
