9. Let’s Talk About Sex Baby!

Are you and your partner mismatched on sex drive lately? Let’s start by acknowledging that no matter who you are or how strong your relationship is, at some point, there will be a mismatch in sex drive between you and your partner. That’s perfectly normal and should be expected. These cycles can last a day, a week or even 6 months, depending on the person. Libido fluctuates because we are humans. And this isn’t just for women. Men’s sex drive fluctuates as well.

So….what are you going to do about it?? That’s the bigger question. Step one is TALK ABOUT IT. Be honest with your partner about your libido…even if it feels awkward to do so. And put your ego in check…this isn’t the time to get defensive with your partner.

If you remember anything from this article, remember this: Your health is one of the biggest influencers to your sex drive. Ask yourself why your libido feels low? Are you exercising regularly? Are you eating well? Are you sleeping enough? Are you managing your stress levels properly? Does your job fulfill you? If you answered an honest NO to any of these, there’s a good chance this could be why your libido is low.

All of these factors affect how you feel about yourself, which directly effects your sex drive. If you’re not living a healthy lifestyle, your sex drive is going to take a hit. Why? Because all of these elements (sleep, nutrition, stress, exercise, etc.) effect your hormones. And your hormones impact your libido.

So, if you or your partner are experiencing low sex drive, take your libido into your own hands (no pun intended) by taking care of your overall well-being.

Here are some simple things you can do today to improve your sex drive

  1. Exercise every day.
  2. Eat cleanly. Cut out processed foods.
  3. Drink plenty of water.
  4. Reduce (preferably omit) alcohol and caffeine.
  5. Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night.
  6. Calm your stress by meditating, journaling, doing breathwork, qi gong…whatever works for you.
  7. Consider a new job or career if you come home feeling depleted versus feeling recharged and alive.
