“Sitting quietly. Doing nothing. Spring comes. And the grass grows by itself.”
– Zen proverb
Today, what we see in our society are people feeling over stressed, over overwhelmed, unhappy and burnt out. Chronic disease and poor mental health are becoming the norm as we see rates of depression, obesity and suicide skyrocketing.
Have you ever stopped to wonder what all of our “doing” is doing? At what point does our doing negatively impact our growth and happiness? Is our doing doing more harm than good?
The Disconnect:
While we are the human race, we are also part of everything. At some point in modern society we have forgotten about our connection with nature. Nature isn’t something we hike in, or drive to see…nature is in us. Just like the bald eagle soaring above the trees, the whale sighting during migration, the colorful butterfly waking from it’s cocoon, or the first sprouts of our Spring vegetable garden, we are all nature. The air we breath is nature. And as the Zen proverb above so simply reminds us…nature knows what to do if we just let it be.
How incredible would life be if we simply let go of all that is causing our stress and dis-ease? After all, what are our “doings” really doing?
