43. Are You Addicted to Stress?

Read time: Under 2 minutes

Are you addicted to living on stress hormones? Let’s face it, it can feel thrilling to be living on that adrenaline filled high…..until it isn’t. Stress hormones feel good until they don’t. So many women are obsessed with habits that put our bodies into a constant state of fight or flight. We tend to push through no matter what, strive to be productive, live life from a to-do list… sound familiar??

While we take pride in our madness, our bodies are the ultimate judge. When luck runs out, our body will feel like the wheels flew off. And no matter how many massages you book, or hot baths you take, the damage has been accumulating for years and the answer isn’t that simple.

Common Signs Your Body is Running on Stress Hormones:

  • No appetite in the morning
  • Bloating or irregular digestion (daily bowel movements are normal)
  • Irregular energy
  • Constant cravings
  • Wired but tired – tired but when head hits the pillow the brain is going 100 miles per minute.
  • Constant “busyness” – the need to constantly be doing something is an addiction to stress hormones and adrenaline.

If you relate with any of these symptoms, it’s time to re-evaluate your lifestyle habits.

Where are we going wrong? Even with good intentions, sometimes our “healthy habits” are causing our bodies more stress.

Habits that can cause your body to run on stress hormones over time:

  • Intermittent fasting – throws hormones into stress mode
  • Low calories diets – less than 1200 calories a day
  • Low carb diets – Carbs aren’t bad, but choose complex carbs over simple carbs
  • Very intense exercise programs – Rigorous exercise is okay in moderation, but can easily be a culprit of stress if done too much.
  • Not sleeping enough

If you are practicing any of these habits, ask yourself why. As women, our stress hormones play a huge role in our menstrual cycles, weight, energy and mood. Nobody knows your body like you do. Experiment and see how you feel when you remove as many of these stressors as you can for 3 months.

What’s causing your stress?
Lifestyle, relationships, jobs, phones, diet, exercise, money…let’s get you back in balance so you feel sustained energy and calmness rather that feeling like every day is a rollercoaster.
