Whether it’s making money, learning a new skill or solving a problem….most of us want the quickest solution possible. We want the magic trick.
When it comes to our health and wellness, it’s hard to not be tempted by the latest diet fad, cream, supplement or workout trick all claiming to give you that quick fix. I can guarantee you there is a magic to wellness, but it’s not a magic trick. Your overall health and wellness comes down to one thing: CONSISTENCY
It’s not the sexy answer you were hoping for, but consistency is where the magic lies. Making daily, consistent healthy lifestyle choices is the most effective path to attaining overall health and well-being. One complaint I often hear is that living healthy feels so restricting and prohibitive. But I see it quite the opposite. Living healthy allows much more freedoms, more options, more energy and more time. Here’s how: Your energy increases, your digestion regulates, your mood stabilizes, you worry less about your weight, inflammation in your body drops allowing you to move more freely, you aren’t dependent on stimulants or sleeping aids to wake you up or put you to sleep, and you spend less time being sick… so now I ask how restrictive does it really seem?
Let’s break it down into tangible steps so that making the healthier choice becomes the easy choice. Consistency is key. If you’re ready to take back your health, this checklist will help you get started. Take it one decision at a time and allow yourself some grace as you’re learning.
Daily Checklist:
- Eat fruits AND veggies (legumes included)
- Move your body for at least 30-45 minutes
- Get 7-8 hours of sleep
- Meditate
- Get outside
- Drink plenty of water
- Laugh
- Refrain from caffeine and alcohol
Before you stop reading after that last point, thinking it’s too restrictive, consider this…If you want to have a drink or eat junk food as part of a celebration, then go ahead. But limit alcohol and/or processed foods to once or twice a month and don’t go over board. Enjoy a drink (not several) or treat, then get back on track. The goal isn’t to isolate yourself from the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s a free for all either. Your work is to keep yourself from overindulging. Enjoy your splurges but keep them infrequent. And remember we are aiming for consistency not perfection.
