2. Self-Care Tips for Busy Women

Read time: 2 minutes

How many times do you sacrifice your needs for others? How often do you put your self-care on the back burner because “that’s just what moms or working women do”? We are taught to be of service to others…to take care of their needs before ours. STOP! You are of no help to anyone if you are not putting yourself first.

Here are four tips to help keep you feeling healthy and energized:

  1. Leave electronics out of the bedroom. The bedroom is for sleep and sex. It isn’t a place for emails, mindless scrolling or binging Netflix. Night phone usage and disrupted sleep make it impossible for our brain to rest well and repair for tomorrow. We have all experienced unclear thinking or brain fog after a night without quality sleep. Our brain cannot function properly when we don’t allow it at least 7 hours of sleep every night.
  2. Drink at least 50 ounces of water every day. Don’t leave the house without a water bottle. Mood swings, sugar cravings, headaches and tiredness are some of the symptoms of dehydration. Get plenty of water to curb food cravings, increase energy and feel happier.
  3. Move your body. Whatever method you choose (walking, running, gardening, dancing, yoga, biking, play frisbee, etc.) move your body for at least 15 minutes every day. Being in nature is even better! Movement helps your body release trapped emotions as well as all those feel-good hormones, making you feel happier, healthier, more confident and more energized. Forget about calorie burn or step count, just enjoy the moment and be grateful for it.
  4. Be grateful. Keep a pen and notebook by your bed. Before you go to bed write 3 things you are grateful for from the day. Getting into a mindset of gratitude and appreciation helps you sleep better. Try it first thing in the morning for an extra boost of positive energy to start your day.

Start living these four tips today and start feeling better tomorrow. The better you care for yourself, the better you care for others. You must make yourself your top priority. Commit to doing these four steps every day for the next 30 days and watch what happens to you and those around you…. you’ll be amazed!
